& India Forest Survey Report 2021:
· Such a report is
published once in 2 years, by the Forest Survey of India, Dehradoon. Forest Survey of India (FSI) is
an organization under the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of
India Its principal mandate is to conduct surveys and assessments of forest
resources in the country.
It started as an organization called Pre- Investment Survey of Forest Resources (PISFR) in 1965 as FAO/UNDP/GOI Project. The changing information needs to be resulted in enlarging the scope of activities of PISFR and it was re-organized as Forest Survey of India in 1981. It was started in 1987. Thus, the present report (the year 2021) is the 17th edition.

Total area under trees or forest cover – 80.9 million
hectares (i. e. 24.62 % of the total area of the nation.)
· Total
Geographical area under forests: 7,13, 789 km square (21.71 % of total).
· Total
Geographical area under trees: 95,748 km square (2.91% of total).
· Increase in the
forest cover: 1540 km Square.
· Increase in the
area that is tree-cover: 721 km Square.
· Thus, the total
increase in the cover: 2261 km Square.
· States with the maximum area under forest: 1) Madhya Pradesh
2) Arunachal Pradesh.
· States with the minimum
area under forest: Haryana 1590 km Square.
· States with the maximum % area under forest: 1) Mizoram 2) Arunachal Pradesh
- States with the minimum % area under forest: Haryana (3.63 %).
