When an Oil India official read out the company's statement hours after a massive fire engulfed Well No 5 at Baghjan oil field in the Tinsukia district of Assam and its surrounding areas in Upper Assam's Tinsukia district, the lack of a human touch was telling. The fear of fire existed for 14 days since 27 May when the well suddenly started spewing out gas uncontrollably after something went wrong during a workover operation.
