=>Paralympics 2024, curtain down: Paralympics 2024 ended on 8th of the September 2024. China tops the list, while India was at 18th rung with a total of 29 medals including 7 golds.

=>Paralympics 2024, day 9th updates: Another record was broken by the Indian contingent on Friday at the Paris Paralympics, with the sixth gold medal added to tally by Praveen Kumar. This time, Tokyo Games silver medalist Praveen went one better as he won gold in the men’s high jump T64 final. India had won five gold medals in Tokyo, and in Paris, they have now won six.

=>Day 8th-Updates: Paris Paralympics 2024, Day 8: India's medal tally soars to 24. The Indian contingent has made a remarkable mark at the Paris Paralympics, securing 24 medals so far, including five golds, nine silvers, and ten bronzes.

=>Day 6th-Updates: India’s athletes clinched five more medals at the ongoing Paris Paralympics , taking the country’s overall medals tally to 20. This is India’s best-ever performance at an edition of the Paralympics, surpassing the total of 19 medals that the country had won in Tokyo three years back.

=>Dipto Jivanji: Deepthi Jeevanji bronze medal: On Tuesday, Deepthi Jeevanji clinched a bronze for India in the Paris 2024 Paralympics in the women’s 400m T20 classification final. It was India’s 16th medal at the ongoing Summer Games.


=>Day 5th, updates: Sumit Antil and Nitesh Kumar won gold medals as India took its medal tally to 15 at the ongoing Paris Paralympics.

Paris Paralympics 2024 Day 5 Highlights: Sumit Antil and Nitesh Kumar increased India's gold medal count to three on Day 5 of the ongoing Paralympics 2024. Sumit came out on top in men's javelin throw F64, with a best attempt of 70.59m. Meanwhile, Kumar Nitesh defeated Great Britain's Daniel Bethell in men's singles SL3 badminton final.

Suhas Yathiraj crashed to a 9-21 13-21 defeat against France's Lucas Mazur and had to settle for silver in men's singles SL4 badminton final. In the women's singles SU5 final, Thulasimathi Murugesan lost to China's Yang Quixia and bagged silver. Manisha Ramadass added to India's medal tally with a win against Denmark's Cathrine Rosengren in women's singles SU5 bronze medal match. Also, Sukant Kadam lost to Indonesia's Fredy Setiawan in men's singles SL4 bronze medal match.

Meanwhile, India defeated Italy in the mixed team compound archery bronze medal playoff match, winning 156-155. In athletics, Yogesh Kathuniya got silver for India in men's discus throw F56 final.

Sheetal with her team-mate Rakesh Kumar added another bronze.

=>About Paralympics 2024:The 2024 Summer Paralympics, also known as the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, and branded as Paris 2024, is the 17th Summer Paralympic Games, an upcoming international multi-sport parasports event governed by the International Paralympic Committee, to be held in Paris, France, from 28 August to 8 September 2024.

Indian Contingent for the Paris Paralympics 

Before the Paris Paralympics, India competed in the 11 edition of the Summer Paralympics. The first Summer Paralympic Games was held in the Italian capital city of Rome in 1960.

The Indian contingent consists of 84 athletes, including 32 women athletes. It is the largest contingent of Indian athletes to participate in a Summer Paralympics edition.

Indian athletes will compete in 12 sporting events, including para-cycling, para-rowing, and blind judo, which they will participate in for the first time.


 A total of 22 sports will be held at the Paris Paralympics. 

Indian Medal Record at Summer Paralympics 

  • Before the start of the Paris Paralympics, India had won 31 medals- 9 gold, 12 silver, and 10 bronze. 
  • India's most successful Paralympics were the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, where it won 19 medals—five gold, eight silver, and six bronze.
  • Murlikant Petkar was the first Indian to win a medal in the Paralympics. He won a gold medal in the 1972 Heidelberg Games in the men’s 50m freestyle 3 event. 
  • Deepa Malik was the first female athlete to win a medal in Paralympics for India. She won a silver in the Women's shot put in the  F53 category at the 2016 Rio Summer Paralympics.
  • Avani Lekhara was the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in the Paralympics. She won a gold medal in the women's 10m air rifle shooting, standing SH1 category at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

Mascot and Motto of the 2024 Paris Paralympics  

  • Mascot  -Paralympic Phryge—It is based on the Phrygian cap, a historical symbol of liberty and freedom. Its colours were blue, white, and red, reflecting the colours of the French Flag.

And now the flagbearers for the opening ceremony have also been announced and they happen to be Sumit Antil and Bhagyashri Jadhav.
