=>New Vice-President of India: India elects new vice-president in midterm vote. India has elected CP Radhakrishnan, a nominee of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led alliance, as the country's next vice-president, weeks after the previous person to hold the post resigned abruptly.

Radhakrishnan won 452 valid votes in the 781-member electoral college - made up of members of the upper and lower houses of parliament - to defeat opposition-backed Sudershan Reddy, a former Supreme Court judge.

=>New RAW chief: The central government has appointed Parag Jain, a 1989-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Punjab cadre, as the next chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India's external intelligence agency.

=>International Olympic Committee (IOC): The 41-year-old Kirsty Coventry became the first female and first African president of the International Olympic Committee in its 131-year-old history.

=>UPSC chairman: Ajay Kumar takes oath as new UPSC Chairman. Retired Indian Administrative Service officer and former Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar today took Oath as the new Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Chairman. The Oath was administered by Lt.Gen Raj Shukla (Retd.), the senior-most Member of the Commission.

=>National Security Advisory Board:  Alok Joshi has been appointed as the head of NSAB. Six more members have been inducted into the board, who was a former R&AW chief

=>52nd CJI: Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai to succeed Sanjiv Khanna as CJI.

=>SEBI chairman: Tuhin Kant Pandey has been appointed as the Chairman of SEBI.

The Union government  appointed Finance and Revenue Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey as the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). He is replacing Madhabi Puri Buch and is now the 11th chairman of the Board. Pandey is a 1987 batch IAS officer of the Odisha cadre.

=>CEO of UIDAI: IAS officer Bhuvnesh Kumar took charge as the CEO of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which administers Aadhaar

=>Chief Election Commissioner of India: Senior Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar takes over as the 26th Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC).

=>BCCI secretary: Devajit Saikia’s and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia’s uncontested election as the secretary and treasurer, respectively, of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was formalised during the BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM) on (January 12, 2025). 

=>ISRO gets new chairman: V Narayanan, The new chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Dr V Narayanan, is one of the key people behind India’s self-reliance in cryogenic technology, which powers all the modern-day heavy-lift rockets being used for high-profile space missions.

He also diagnosed the problems that led to Chandrayaan-2's failure and recommended the corrections needed for the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3.
