=>Globally Nature Preparedness Index 2024: In the 2024 Global Nature Conservation Index (NCI), India ranked 176th out of 180 countries, with a score of 45.5 out of 100. This placed India among the five worst performing countries, along with Kiribati, Turkey, Iraq, and Micronesia. The top-ranked country was Luxembourg.
=>AI Preparedness Index: the International Monetary Fund (IMF) launched an Artificial Intelligence Preparedness Index (AIPI) Dashboard on their website, which tracks AI readiness across 174 economies globally.
- It assesses the level of AI preparedness across 174 countries.
- The rating for each country is given based on the assessment of readiness in four key areas - digital infrastructure, human capital and labour market policies, innovation and economic integration, and regulation and Ethics.
- The Index has categorised each country into Advanced Economy (AE), Emerging Market Economy (EM), and Low-Income Country (LIC).
- Singapore (0.80), Denmark (0.78), and the United States (0.77) are among the highest-rated AEs,
- India categorised as an EM with a 0.49 rating. India ranks 72 in a total of 174 countries, with Bangladesh (0.38) on 113, Sri Lanka (0.43) on 92, and China (0.63) on 31.
=>Global hunger index 2024(GHI): According to the 2024 Global Hunger Index (GHI), India ranks 105th out of 127 countries, placing it in the "serious" category for hunger levels. The 2024 Global Hunger Index (GHI) suggests that India's undernourished population this year would effectively rank as the seventh most populous country in the world — with roughly the population of Brazil, a staggering 200 million people.
=>Global Innovation Index 2024: India jumps 42 spots in 9 years, ranks 39th in Global Innovation Index 2024.The Global Innovation Index 2024 (GII) takes the pulse of innovation against a background of steady but slow global economic growth, shrinking innovation finance and sluggish productivity. It reveals the most innovative economies in the world, ranking the innovation performance of around 130 economies while highlighting innovation strengths and weaknesses.

Context
- According to a new study published in the journal Nature, India has secured the top spot as biggest plastic polluter in the world, releasing 9.3 million tonnes (Mt) annually.
Key highlights of the study
- The study defines plastic emissions as materials that have moved from the managed or mismanaged system (controlled or contained state) to the unmanaged system (uncontrolled or uncontained state — the environment).
- The plastic pollution from India amounts to roughly one-fifth of global plastic emissions.
- India’s waste generation rate is approximately 0.12 kilograms per capita per day.
- The global plastic waste emissions were at 52.1 Mt per year in 2020.
- While littering was the largest emission source in the Global North, uncollected waste was the dominant source across the Global South.
- The 2nd and 3rd biggest plastic polluters are Nigeria, with 3.5 million tonnes of emissions, and Indonesia, with 3.4 million tonnes.
- Furthermore, high-income countries have higher plastic waste generation rates, but most have 100 per cent collection coverage and controlled disposal, the study highlighted.
=>The NIRF university ranking 2024: The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on 29th September 2015.
This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”.
=>Global gender gap report 2024: The Gender Inequality Index 2022 has been released on the 13th March 2024 by UNDP in their Human Development Report 2023/2024.
On the Gender Inequality Index (GII) 2022, India stands at rank 108 out of 193 countries with a score of 0.437. India stood at rank 122 out of 191 countries with a score of 0.490 in the Gender Inequality Index 2021.
This shows a significant jump of 14 ranks on GII 2022 vis-à-vis GII 2021.
Over the last 10 years, India’s rank in GII has become consistently better, indicating progressive improvement in achieving gender equality in the country. In 2014, this rank was 127, which now has become 108.
This is an outcome of the decisive agenda set by the Government for ensuring women’s empowerment through policy initiatives aimed at their long-term socio-economic and political development. Government’s initiatives have spanned across women’s lifecycle including large scale initiatives for girls’ education, skill development, entrepreneurship facilitation and safety in the workplace. Policies and legislations in these areas have been driving the Government's ‘women-led development’ agenda.

=>Global Press Freedom Index 2024: As per the recent index, India has been ranked in the 159th position, which is two ranks higher than last year, however, India still lags behind countries like Turkey, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, which are ranked at 158, 152, and 150, respectively
• India ranked number 10 in cybercrimes, with frauds involving people making advance fee payments being the most common type, according to new research that surveyed cybercrime experts around the world.
• An international team of researchers has compiled the ‘World Cybercrime Index’ that ranks roughly 100 countries and identifies key hotspots according to various categories of cybercrime, including ransomware, credit card theft and scams.
• The Index shows that a relatively small number of countries house the greatest cybercriminal threat.
• Russia tops the list, followed by Ukraine, China, the USA, Nigeria, and Romania. The UK comes in at number eight. Brazil is at the ninth position, according to the research published in the journal PLoS ONE.
• The World Cybercrime Index has been developed as a joint partnership between the University of Oxford and UNSW Canberra and has also been funded by CRIMGOV, a European Union-supported project based at the University of Oxford and Sciences Po.
=>QS universities ranking 2024: A total of 69 Indian universities with 424 entries have made it to the QS World University Rankings by subject, marking a 19.4% rise from the previous year's 355 entries achieved by 66 universities.India is the second most represented country in Asia for the number of ranked universities (69), after mainland China with 101.
Here, JNU made it at the 20th rank, while IIM Ahmadabad is at 22nd place in its category., IIM Banglore and IIM Kolkata too made it in up to 50 list.

=>Global Corruption Perception Index 2024: The index was released in January 2024, India is at the 93rd rung in 180 countries. India, sharing space with the Maldives, Kazakhstan, and Lesotho, secured 93rd position out of 180 countries in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) for the year 2023, according to Transparency International, a global civil society annual index. In 2022, India held the 85th position, sharing it with five other countries, including the Maldives. Despite a decline in rank, attributed to global movements, India's score dropped only by one point from the previous year, settling at 39 on a scale of zero (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).
